Whitney Houston was born on August 9, 1963, in the biggest city in New Jersey, Newark.

She was the third child in the family. Her mother, Cissy Houston, was a gospel singer, so she often took their children to churches. Whitney Houston's mother loved various music, and this love was clearly passed on to the children. Following the example of his mother, the first genre in which the young Whitney performed was gospel. In just 11 years, she already sang in the church choir.

From that age, she gradually began to join the show business, perhaps without even knowing it. Whitney participated in filming various commercials, performed with music groups, and even was a model. It wasn't until 1982 that she began her true solo career as a singer. In the early years, Whitney and the studio tried to find the most suitable performance style and experimented with sound. The singer continued to perform together in various clubs with her mother. Thanks to these performances, she was noticed by Gerry Griffith, who worked with Arista Records. He immediately liked the voice and manner of the young singer, and he was determined to convince Arista Records manager Clive Davis to see the performance with his own eyes. Of course, the real talent was immediately appreciated, and after a while, Arista Records and Whitney Houston signed a contract.

Like last time, they first needed to find a style of performance in which she would feel most comfortable. For this reason, the studio was in no hurry to release their debut album. The first attempt to test how the audience would accept Whitney was in the single "Hold Me", which she recorded with Teddy Pendergrass. The people very warmly received this song, and it was a good signal to start work on the singer's debut album.

The first album was "Whitney Houston", which was released on February 14, 1985. The first six months after the release of the album was relatively quiet, but it began to gain more and more popularity in the summer.

Hits such as "Someone For Me", "You Give Good Love", "Thinking About You", "All at Once", and others were extremely well received by people.

It immediately became clear that a great future awaited her. Critics as one emphasized the singer's incredible voice and called her one of the most promising young performers.

After such a wild success, it's time to prove that hopes for a new star were not in vain. Whitney Houston's second album, Whitney, was released in 1987.

The first single from this album called "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" became an undisputed hit worldwide, taking first place there. This song earned 3x platinum status and won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Of course, not only this single became popular. Songs such as "So Emotional" and "Didn't We Almost Have It All" also gained popularity, ranking high in various music charts worldwide.

The artist's third album can be called the most experimental of all her works. Whitney decided to move away from her usual style of performance and switched to R&B and Swing performance. Although songs such as "Miracle", "I'm Your Baby Tonight", and "All the Man That I Need" were successful, most critics did not like such a drastic change of genres. You can also highlight the single "We Didn't Know", which she performed with the legendary Stevie Wonder.

Of course, if we talk about the best songs of Whitney Houston, we can not forget about "I Will Always Love You", which became the soundtrack to the movie "Bodyguard".

Of course, the original of this song belongs to the charming Dolly Parton, but it was performed by Whitney, that this song became wildly popular. To this day, this single is considered one of the best of all time. He even managed to break the record by staying in first place in the Billboard 200 for 14 weeks.

Her subsequent albums, such as "My Love Is Your Love", "Just Whitney", and "One Wish: The Holiday Album", were well received by both audiences and critics.

"My Love Is Your Love" is even called the best album by some, as it features songs such as "When You Believe", "Heartbreak Hotel", "It's Not Right but It's Okay", and others. At the Grammy Awards, this album was able to receive as many as 6 nominations. Among them, Whitney won one, namely Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

In all, Whitney Houston has received more than 400 awards during her fantastic career, which is a phenomenal result. Among them are the 6 Grammys, 2 Emmys, 22 American Music Awards, and many more. She became a real idol for a new generation of performers who saw themselves in the same genre. Unfortunately, Whitney Houston passed away in 2012 due to heart problems combined with drug use. A large number of stars gathered for her funeral, including Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, and others. The same church where Whitney performed as a child held a special memorial service that lasted for 4 hours. In general, it is safe to say that the memory of this fantastic singer will be preserved for a long time, and her songs will be heard around the world.
