TEDxAccra

Since 1984, TED conferences have helped professionals from various fields share their experiences with everyone and open up new opportunities for self-development. 

One of the most popular conferences in the world was founded by Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks. At the initial stage, the conferences did not have a clear schedule and were planned to be held at different times, but since 1990 they have become annual. 

In the early years, the subject of TED was not as diverse as it is today. Their main topics were technology and related industries. With the growing popularity of conferences, it was decided to expand the thematic circle and thus connected culture, politics, science, medicine, and much more. This decision turned out to be very successful, and today almost everyone who is interested in conferences on this topic knows about TED. 

Both Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks were successful graphic designers at the time of TED's creation. Interestingly, the first conference was essentially a demo presentation of a CD, which was developed by the joint efforts of companies such as Sony and Phillips. The first presenter or speaker can be called the mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot. Of course, the lack of any popularity was reflected in the number of people who attended the presentation. They failed financially, so conferences were not held until 1990. 

Since the 2000s, TED began a relatively rapid development. This was facilitated by numerous economic decisions and the encouragement of more speakers and regular visitors. Of course, financing such a large project is not an easy task, but as already mentioned, the financial decisions made helped to cope with this problem. Most of the funding is provided by sponsorships, sales of various goods such as books, licenses, streams, and more. On the positive side, sponsorship companies are not allowed to influence creative decisions about the conference. 

In 2005, TED began its experiment, which drew even more attention to the conference. Each year were selected winners who received a cash prize and the so-called "Wish to change the world". The organizers of the project are doing everything possible to realize this "wish" that will benefit the future. From 2005 to 2009, three winners were selected each year, but since 2010 their number has been reduced to one. This was done primarily to focus on one goal each year and increase the monetary reward for the winner. An interesting fact! Among the TED winners were celebrities such as Irish singer and songwriter Bono and 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton. 

If we talk about TEDx, then these are independent events that are based on TED presentations. Of course, you can't just hold this conference. This requires a special license from TED and approval of rules. TEDx conferences are currently held in more than 130 countries. 

In addition to TEDx, there are also TEDGlobal, TED Translators, TED-Ed, TED Interview, TEDMED, TEDWoman, TED Fellows, and many others. This categorization helps to better categorize content and allows more people to share their stories. 

TEDxAccra is no exception. This shows how many talented people in Ghana sincerely desire prosperity for their country and think about how it can be achieved. Despite any obstacles, they learn not to give up and get things done. In 2021 alone, more than 20 speakers from various industries took part in TEDxAccra. 

Of course, the future depends on the modern young generation. Its desire to achieve more and bring its country to success is inherent in almost everyone. TEDxAccra not only helps to understand how this can be done in Ghana but also advises on how to take your quality of life to a whole new level and get a lot of new information. Whether in face-to-face or online, TEDxAccra will continue to help achieve more.

Dr. Elikem Tamaklo - Healthcare influencer and managing director of Nyaho Medical Center. His story at TEDxAccra showed what challenges the healthcare system faces and what the future holds for Ghana if the medical industry is not developed. His story both impresses with statistics and gives hope for a better future. 

Ivy Appiah - CEO of Twajo Industries Limited. As an expert in biochemistry and product development, she shares her experience and advice with people to help start a small business in Ghana or elsewhere in Africa. 

Selorm Adedevoh - business strategist. His many years of experience in management positions have given him the opportunity to understand how to become a true leader and succeed in managing large projects. In his story, Adedevoh recalls his childhood and points out the details that taught him not to give up and become a support for other people. 

Safo Akonnor - the host of the podcast "The Conversations in the Dark". In his speech, Akonnor touches on such a difficult and unfortunately relevant topic today as mental health and a constant feeling of sadness. After going through this, he realized that he could help with other tips such as overcoming depression and dispelling those stereotypes that usually prevent people from seeking help. 

Ivy Prosper - TV producer, host, and public speaker. In her speech, Prosper touches on the topic of social networks, various media, and how they can contribute to the development and dissemination of African culture. Being an expert in this field, she quickly and, most importantly, interestingly presents information that will be useful to hear absolutely anyone. 

Sally Osafo - civil engineer. Her story reveals the importance of each voice and how you make a difference in society. If you've ever wondered what role each citizen of their country plays in society, this TED Talk will help answer the accumulated questions. 

Of course, we can list a huge number of people whose interesting stories have attracted the attention of thousands of people across the country, but the variety of these topics makes it clear that at TEDx, you can find answers to a huge number of questions.
