Shakira

A Latin singer & songwriter, dancer and actress Shakira was born in 1977 in Colombia. A future star was raised in a quite rich family as far as her father was the owner of the jewelry store.

Additionally, he used to write prose and fiction. Living together with her 8 siblings the girl stood out from all the other children because of her voracious mind and active development: she learned the alphabet long ago before school as well as mastered reading and writing skills. At the age of 4, she created her first poem and at 7 she got a present - a typewriter. Shakira’s parents paid undivided attention to their daughter and noticed her passion for dancing at an early age. Thus, a young talent started to attend dancing circles. Little Shakira was surrounded by the first-rate things: good music and literature, jewels. Being an 8 years old girl Shakira experienced a deep shock connected with the death of her brother and wrote a song in honor of him.

In 1990, while performing on one of the talents shows Shakira got to know a theatrical journalist Monica Ariza. The latter, in her turn, introduced the dancer to Siro Vargas from Sony Music. As a result, Shakira signed a contract with a Columbian office of the label for 3 years. At this time a promising girl starts working on her first album “Magia”. In a year she releases the album, which includes 9 songs, written by herself and Columbian composers. However “Magia” did not bring the singer worldwide success she became popular in her native town and in Columbia at least. In 1993 she acted at the International music festival, taking place in Chilly, and won 3rd place.

Being a school graduate Shakira starred in the soap opera “EI Oasis” as Luisa Maria. The teenager has even got an award for that and had her first-ever photo session. With the release of her second studio work, “Peligro” Shakira had pretty tense relations with her producers as far as she was not popular enough to get some profit from her work. The situation has changed fully after the introduction of her famous single “Dónde Estás Corazón”, which later on entered her 3rd album “Nestro Rock”. In a short period of time, the previously mentioned song appeared on the top of each and every Latin American music chart. The album itself received platinum certification in Columbia and, finally, made Shakira popular outside her homeland.

In 1996 the artists released her debut official studio album “Pies Descalzos” with a $100,000 budget and was paid off in a few weeks. It received platinum certification as well as the previous one in Latin American countries: Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Cuba and Chilly. In a year “Pies Descalzos” was awarded with Billboard Latin Music Awards. The same year a misfortune happened to the pop star: her belongings and songs’ lyrics were stolen at the airport. Unfortunately, Shakira should have started her work on the album again. In 1998 the second official studio album “Dónde Están Los Ladrones?” appeared on the music platforms.

Looking back at Shakira’s enthusiasm and hard work she was nominated for a Grammy for the first time in the Best Latin American rock performance category. With the release of the “MTV Unplugged” concert compilation, which was presented on the stage of The Manhattan Centre’s ballroom in New York she managed to become not only nominated for a Grammy but to win 2 awards.

Along with the start of gaining popularity in the US Shakira made up her mind and decided to start her work on the English album. Its recording lasted for 2 years. At the end of summer 2001, a pop star released her outstanding single “Whenever, Whatever” in support of the English album “Laundry Service”. It was met with excitement and got tons of positive feedback from the critics. However, some said that she lost her individuality in such a way.

Another album of the artist was recorded in both variants: English and Spanish to please both audiences. One of the most influential and popular songs of that time was and still is “Hips Don’t Lie”, which is the most successful single of the 2000s.

2007 was marked and memorable for a perfect and seamless collaboration of 2 energetic performers: Shakira and Beyonce and their single “Beautiful Liar” which was included on Beyonce's exclusive album “B’Day”. The single received a Grammy award for the best collaborative pop vocal performance. Moreover, it even set a record, moving from the 94th position in the Billboard Hot 100 chart to the 3rd one. The same year Shakira entered The University of California.

In 2009 Shakira released her regular single, which repeated the fame of many other ones “She Wolf”. The album of the same title did not receive so much positive acclaim and popularity. The 2010s started for Shakira by recording “Waka Waka” single for the World football championship in South Africa. It immediately enters music charts in over 20 countries and gets millions of views on YouTube. Four years later a pop diva presented her next album. Together with another famous singer Rihanna she gave the public the chance to enjoy their collaborative incredible single “Can’t Remember to Forget You”. The 2010s brought positive changes to Shakira’s private life too. She started dating footballer Jerare Pike and gave birth to 2 boys in 2012 and 2015.
