Quavo (or Quavious Keyate Marshall) is an American rapper that was born on April 2, 1991, in Athens, Georgia in an ordinary family.
His mom was a hairdresser, but his dad died when he was only 4 years old. In his student years, Marshall had shown himself to be very capable in football. Being a quarterback in Berkmar High School, Quavo set the record by completing 28 passes in a game. In 2009, Marshall became a man who will be able to get exceptional success as a quarterback. In other words, he instilled confidence in himself to many people due to the 2009 football season wherein Berkmar won the victory largely thanks to Quavo. Anyway, Marshall dropped out of Berkmar several months before graduation. Recently, he announced his graduation from high school in 2020, which means 11 years after dropping out. Despite being known as a singer, songwriter and actor, Quavo got the MVP Award for the victory in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in 2018. Also, he has already played twice in the seasons of 2019 and 2020.
Actually, Quavo is more known as a member of Migos rap trio that was formed in 2008 and also includes rappers Takeoff and Offset. By the way, Offset is Quavo's cousin and Quavo is Takeoff's uncle. Three boys are grown-up by Quavo's mother. Initially, guys wished to name their trio as Polo Club. Lately, they decided to name it “Migos” because “Polo Club” is too generic. Migos' first music project, a mixtape titled Juug Season was released in the summer of 2011. A year later, the band released the second mixtape titled No Label.
Very soon, in 2013 Migos sprang into fame for their single "Versace". The song peaked at number 99 on the Billboard chart and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Moreover, widely-known rapper Drake remixed this single. In 2015, American hip hop trio released its debut studio album titled "Yung Rich Nation". The album was produced by Zaytoven, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., and Murda Beatz. It consists of 15 songs including "Memoirs", "One Time", "Cocaina", "Recognition" and others. Moreover, the album became the 11th highest-selling album in the United States in its debut week. On April 18, the Migos concert at Georgia Southern University was stopped by authorities. Each trio member was arrested. Quavo was charged with possession of narcotics, marijuana, as well as possession of firearms in a school safety zone. Despite the troubles that had happened, Migos continued to work on the creation of other singles. The guys released the "Culture" album in 2017, "Culture II" album in 2018, and "Culture III" album in 2020.
Thanks to the success of Migos' second studio album Culture, Quavo was invited to feature such popular songs as Post Malone's "Congratulations", Justin Bieber's "I'm the One" and "No Brainer", Drake's "Portland". The music influencers such as Drake and Justin Bieber were impressed by the incredible rap performance of Quavo. By the way, "Culture" reached №1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. As a result, Quavo began a solo career besides Migos. The rapper has been working on his own songs and featuring singles of other popular performers. For example, in 2017, Quavo featured the song "Go Off" with Lil Uzi Vert and Travis Scott. Then this song was certified Gold by the RIAA.
Also, Quavo created "Ice Tray" with Lil Yachty, the song reached the 74 position on the Billboard Hot 100. Continuing cooperation with Travis Scott, in 2017, he released "Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho" - the album which contains 8 songs debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. In this year, he got Teen Choice Awards in Choice Electronic/Dance Song and Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song for "Know No Better" song(performed with Major Lazer, Travis Scott, and Camila Cabello). Also, Quavo was awarded in the category “Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop” by American Music Awards for "I'm the One" song.
That’s interesting, Quavo has also been an actor since 2016. Quavo has already taken part in creating 6 American series such as “Atlanta”, “Star”, “Black-ish”, “Ballers”, “Justin Bieber: Seasons”, and “Narcos: Mexico”. He acted the role of himself for each of them. By the words of critics, Quavo managed to do this very well.
In January 2018, Quavo released "Workin Me", "Lamb Talk" and "Bubble Gum" singles for his first solo album. By the way, "Workin Me" had quite a good result because it peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. Back in October of the same year, the debut studio album "Quavo Huncho" was released by Quavo. It was estimated ambiguously by critics. On the one hand, it is quite boring due to too many repeating tunes. But on the other hand, Quavo is definitely endowed with enough potential to grow up as a solo performer. By the way, Quavo admitted on one of the interviews that he felt that he was able to create a better album. The key to this was that you need to invest more in the album than something personal, the same soul that makes the songs more understandable to listeners. However, the album was certified gold by RIAA for combined sales as well as album-equivalent units of over 500,000 units in the US. The album consists of 19 singles, some of them are featured by such popular singers and rappers as Drake, Madonna, Cardi B, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, as well as fellow Migos members Takeoff and Offset.
