Prince Roger Nelson, or simply Prince, was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota state, in a loving musical family.
His father was a great pianist, while his mother was a jazz singer. Prince got his name from his father. He named his son so that he would have control over his life and do what he wanted. Looking at the singer's career, it is safe to say that it worked. Prince and his sister became interested in their parents' work from an early age. After a short training session and searching for his favorite style, the Prince wrote his first song at the age of seven. It was called "Funk Machine".
Unfortunately, the Prince's parents later divorced, and because of this, he was forced to live in new families until his best friend Andre Simon came to his aid. After that, the prince lived in his house. An interesting fact is that Andre will be in the same band with the Prince in the future and will be the bassist there. Of course, his music career required constant practice, so as a teenager, Prince began performing in a variety of entertainment venues such as bars, clubs, and so on. He usually did it with other bands, mostly as a guitarist or keyboard player.
At the age of 19, the Prince joined the band "94 East". He stayed in this band for a while and after a while decided to try his hand at a solo career by releasing his first album "For You". This album became special for the Prince because almost all the work on the songs was done exclusively by him. The style that the young artist set with his first album was really something completely unique. It is this new look at old genres that thousands of musicians around the world will try to reach in the future.
The second self-titled album "Prince" released in 1979 became for him the appearance on the professional music scene. All these thanks to the song "I Wanna Be Your Lover" which became a real hit. Dirty Mind's next album became no less popular with his songs "Uptown", "Dirty Mind" and "Do It All Night". At the same time, the Prince began to perform actively at live concerts, where his outrageous appearance made a real noise.
In the same year, 1979, the Prince decided to create his own band called The Revolution. The main styles of this band were rock, funk, pop and blues. Prince's fifth solo album "1999" was the first since the band was formed.
Like previous albums, “1999”, it caused a real sensation, which made it extremely close to the title of pop king. Of course, the song "Little Red Corvette" deserves special attention, which many people still consider the best in the musician's career.
It seemed that there was nowhere to grow, but in 1984 he released probably his most famous album called "Purple Rain". This album is in the Top 500 best albums according to Rolling Stone and ranks eighth there.
As with most musicians, the late '80s - early '90s was a great time to experiment with music. The prince also did not want to continue making standard music for him and decided to start experimenting. He undertook everything, he compatible projects with his band The Revolution, to unusual psychedelic tracks. This can be heard most in his ninth solo album "Sign ☮ the Times" released in 1987.
Around 1993, Prince decided to go for a total change of image. He was tired of showing only his serious aggressive side, and so he decided to combine male and female sides, creating a new image that was nice to watch anyone. This change can be seen very well in the songs of his seventeenth album "The Gold Experience", namely "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", "Gold" and "I Hate U".
Prince decided to return to his original pseudonym in the early 2000s. Album "Musicology", released in 2004 returned the singer to the musical Olympus again. An interesting experiment occurred with the release of the album "3121" when some lucky people were able to find a free invitation to the concert in boxes with CDs. Of course, this was not an original idea, because the idea was taken from the fairy tale "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". In 2014 "Plectrumelectrum" and "Art Official Age" were released, and in 2015 two parts of the disc "HITnRUN" were released.
The artist's personal life was not so often disclosed, but it was well known that he had a romantic relationship with many stars of show business. Among them were Carmen Electra, Madonna, Anna Fantastic, and others. At the age of 37, the Prince married Maite Garcia, who was his backing vocalist at the time. It happened in 1996 on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, their newborn son was born with Pfeiffer syndrome and died just a week later. Of course, this was an extremely strong shock for the couple, and because of this, they divorced in 1999.
Later, the Prince became very interested in religion and became a Jehovah's Witness. Fans were ambivalent about this but continued to support their favorite artist. In 2016, the Prince was urgently hospitalized. By this time he already had quite a few health problems. One of these problems was severe pain in the hip joint. Because of them, the Prince was forced to take fentanyl. It was an accidental overdose of this powerful analgesic that caused the death of the performer.
