Mista Silva

Papa Kwawe Amponsa, now better known as Mista Silva, was born in London and spent childhood in the Brockley district.

As a child, the boy loved music. Of course, everyone probably loves it at any age, but Mista Silva wanted not just to listen but to try to do it himself. Of course, it does not always happen as you wish, and he spent most of his childhood doing something completely different.

Around 2008, Mista Silva decided to start realizing an old dream and began trying his hand at music. Thanks to the support of some friends and acquaintances, he turned his attention to various dance genres and even tried himself as a DJ. During this period, the artist, on the advice of friends, began to choose a stage name that can be remembered by people and even inspire. After a while, he decided to take the stage name, Mista Silva. These words symbolize the "Mister", which of course immediately emphasizes the artist, and "Silver", which indicates a strong personality. Maybe the name really was one of the reasons for the success.

A few years later, in 2011, Mista Silva decided to change the direction of his music and try to connect one of his favorite African genres - Afrobeat. After trying to record some songs, Mista Silva realized that this genre is the closest to him. Still, the desire to develop his own direction did not disappear, and therefore very soon began to form the unusual direction afrobeat in which Mista Silva performs today. However, everything is in order.

2012 can rightly be considered the beginning of his music career. Of course, he was involved in music before, but it was in 2012 that people began to learn about him. The reason for this success was the release of his first EP called "Full Vim". It contained eight songs (including a short intro), with a total duration of almost 28 minutes. Nearly all the tracks in it (except introduction) Mista Silva recorded in collaboration with other artists. For example, he performed "Full Vim" with Martekie, "Azonto Party" with Stay Jay, "Boom Boom Tah" with Skob and Kwamz N Flava, and "Craze My Mind" with Sonni Balli.

Over the next few months, the EP gained momentum, especially in England. This was followed by several singles that only consolidated his popularity. The most striking fact in this story is that he was still unsigned at the time of gaining that first popularity.

Thus, he even became the first UK afrobeat artist whose songs hit the BBC 1Xtra. Of course, this radio was not the only one that began to include his songs on the air. Among others, we can also mention Kiss FM and Capital Xtra. One of the tracks that became a real hit was "Now Wats Up". In 2014, he signed his first record deal with Polydor. Of course, such an event for any novice musician has become the key to a new life.

One of the sharpest leaps in popularity for Mista Silva occurred in 2015 when the style in which he performs today has almost completed its formation. The unusual combination of Afrobeat with the more traditional Hip-Hop, Hip-House, and other UK-oriented genres instantly became noticeable among thousands of other songs. In the same year, 2015, Mista Silva released his second EP, "Let It Off". This EP consisted of 2 parts, each of which contains six songs. In the first EP, "Let It Off", unlike "Now Wats Up", all the songs were performed by Mista Silva in solo. Here you could hear songs like "Goes Down", "B.A.D", "Like It", "Go Gaga", "Okay", and "Nyame Ah Y3".

Although this was only the first EP after joining the record label, thanks to its previous success and a new production level, the songs became even more dynamic and energetic. In a very short time, namely six months, the second part was released, which was entitled "Let It Off 2". It included songs such as "No Time", "Rotate" with Klayz, "Pure", "Jola", "Do Your Ting", and "Feel It". "Rotate" and "Do Your Ting" were especially noted among them, which quickly became a favorite among fans.

Of course, success brings additional opportunities. These include numerous live performances, collaborations with brands, interviews, and much more. It was around this time that his popularity in England increased significantly. The famous British publication The Guardian even named Mista Silva one of the eight afrobeat artists that are definitely worth listening to.

After many singles, the next big step was the release of his debut solo album "Out Of The Darkest". It contains 14 tracks with a total duration of almost 48 minutes. Most of the songs on this album, namely 12, including "Out Of The Darkest", "Tic Tall", "Mad", "Melody", "Murda", and others, performed by Mista Silva in solo. Only two tracks were performed in a duet, namely the "Body" feat. Donaeo, and "Feel My Wave" feat. Mom Dope. Fans of the artist have been waiting for this album for a long time, but as Mista Silva mentioned, he would make an album when the time would feel right.

In the following 2019, Mista Silva released three singles, namely "Special Ting" feat. Jaij Hollands, Thinking, and Go Slow. In 2020, despite the difficult situation in the world, Mista Silva did not stop working. During this year, he was able to release three singles, including "Blow", "Woso", as well as an unusual combination of "Double Double" with Drahmah. These included two songs, namely "Anointing" and "Mek I Go".

According to a good tradition, in 2021, at the end of the summer, Mista Silva can be heard in three big singles, namely "Tables" by Clint Billiam$ (feat. Mista Silva and Wayup Rui), "Koko" by Karen Nyame KG (feat. Mista Silva), and «Amanfour» feat. Flow King Stone and Novelist.

Of course, Mista Silva continues to pursue a musical career and actively participates in various events, concerts, celebrations, and other events. Mista Silva's musical style, although already formed, still does not standstill. He tries to give the listener something new that will perfectly combine African and European styles, creating a real storm of energy with each new song.
