Eddy Kenzo, whose real name is Edrisah Musuuza, was born on December 25, 1989, in Masaka, Uganda. The boy hardly knew his father, and his mother died when he was very young.
Without support, the boy had to learn to survive on the street. Although it was tough, Kenzo did not think to give up. Of course, there were good people who helped such children from time to time, and Kenzo will not forget this kindness for a long time. Sports, namely football, helped him not to lose hope for the future.
When Kenzo was 9, he was accepted into Masaka’s Local Council FC. For a while, sport became a real salvation from the outside world, and he invested all his energy in football. Such persistent training and desire to win helped him show great results and even get a sports bursary that allowed Kenzo to study at Lubiri Secondary School in Kampala. Despite this opportunity, he did not graduate and began working on the realization of his new dream - to become a musician.
2008 can be considered the official start of his solo career. It was then that he took the pseudonym Eddy Kenzo and began to develop his musical abilities. In the first two years of his career, he rarely released songs and devoted more and more time to find his favorite styles with which he would be most comfortable working. The only single during this time was "Yannimba" with Mikie Wine. Although the song was received quite positively, Kenzo knew he was able to do much better.
In 2010, his second single, "Stamina", was released. Unlike "Yannimba", this single became popular in the country and was even used by politicians for election campaigns. Even without releasing a single album, Eddy Kenzo became hugely popular in Uganda. He won the Best New Artist Award at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards just a year later. Thanks to such unexpected popularity, he had many new opportunities. For a start, Kenzo realized his long-held dream and created his own music label called Big Talent Entertainment.
For the next two years, Eddy Kenzo mainly released new singles and gave small concerts. He held his first such concert at the Kyadondo Rugby Club in 2013. At the same time, Kenzo was working on new music, most of which he will release in 2014 on his debut album. The first song that will bring him to the international stage was "Sitya Loss". To be more precise, the popularity was brought to him not so much by the song as by the music video for it, in which you could see a fantastic performance of the children's dance group Ghetto Kids. This performance attracted people's attention from all over the world, as a result of which the music video gained millions of views. As of 2021, it has already surpassed 36 million views on YouTube. In the same year, he released his debut studio album called "Sitya Loss", which contained ten songs with a total duration of just over 40 minutes.
The following year was quite rich for Kenzo. At this time, he began preparations for his second album and continued to perform even outside Uganda. For example, he visited the United States with musician DeMarco as part of their dancehall tour. Not forgetting his love of football, Kenzo also performed at the opening ceremony of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. In 2015, he received two prestigious music awards at once, namely the BET Award in the nomination Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artist, and the HiPipo Music Award in the nomination Best Use of Social Media.
Knowing what difficulties people may face in life and how much they sometimes need someone else's help, in 2015, Kenzo decided to create a charity called the Eddy Kenzo Foundation. Together with other celebrities and ordinary people, they raise funds to help medical, educational, and other structures to help cope with the problems in difficult times.
In late 2015 - early 2016, Kenzo began releasing songs that will be included in his second solo album called "Zero to Hero". One of these songs was the lead single "Soraye". This album, which he released in 2016, contained as many as 22 tracks with a total duration of more than 1 hour and 20 minutes. Shortly before the release of the second album, he also toured several countries in Africa. Another year and another victory. This time Kenzo received the All Africa Music Award in the Best African Collaboration category for the song "Mbilo Mbilo (remix)", which he performed with Nigerian singer and songwriter Niniola.
