One of the most popular American stand-up comedians, Darryl Lynn Hughley (DL Hughley) was born on March 6, 1963, in the family of a Delta Air Lines maintenance worker.

Despite Hughley being born in Portsmouth, Virginia, the boy grew up in Los Angeles. In adolescence, he was a member of the Bloods, an African-American street gang. Unfortunately, this membership became the reason for Hughley's expulsion from San Pedro High School. However, the guy got his GED after he had turned his back on gang life. Then he became an employee of the Los Angeles Times.

Hughley's career as a comedian started rapid growth when he became the original host of the stand-up comedy program "ComicView". He had been working there from 1992 to 1993. Then Hughley decided to try other occupations too. For example, he released the television sitcom series "The Hughleys". The sitcom was filmed based on Hughley's real-life experiences. And, it was written and produced by himself, of course, he starred there too. Of course, comedy has always been the center of his attention, so it was decided to release a comedy album called "D.L. Hughley: Notes From The GED Section". Meanwhile, he had roles on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and on NBC's Scrubs as Turk's brother. Also, the artist had a short-lived talk show on Comedy Central. And, in 2008, he became the host of the BET Awards. Soon, one of the most famous television channels of America, CNN, invited DL Hughley to become a host and writer of their comedic news show. The main goal of the show is to cover political trends and happenings, pop culture, entertainment, sports, and so on. The premiere episode of "D. L. Hughley Breaks the News'' was on October 25, 2008. But already in March 2009, the artist left it due to his strong wish to be closer to the family, so he needed to work in Los Angeles. For a fact, Hughley has a wife named LaDonna, two daughters, and a son.

DL Hughley is a frequent visitor to many shows. For example, in 2010, he was a special guest moderator of ABC's The View. Also, he starred as a guest on TBS's Glory Daze as well as he was a guest of the famous show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". Certainly, the famous American show "Dancing with the Stars'' wasn't left untouched by Hughley. He danced in the pair with Cheryl Burke, a two-time champion, on Season 16 of the show. From July 2009 to August 2010 Hughley was a host of The D.L. Hughley Morning Show on a radio channel WEPN (or 98.7 Kiss FM) together with Jacque Reid. In 2013, he had a deal with REACH Media to host an afternoon drive show, The D.L. Hughley Show by Cumulus Media Networks.

That's interesting, but Hughley also is an author of three books. The title of the first of them is "I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up: How the Audacity of Dopes Is Ruining America", it was published on July 31, 2012. In 2017, he published his second book, "Black Man, White House: An Oral History of the Obama Years". Finally, the latest book titled "How Not to Get Shot: And Other Advice From White People" was published the year later.

Currently, Hughley continues hosting “The D.L. Hughley Show”. Certainly, DL Hughley is one of the most popular standup comedians that also made a great impression in the television, film and radio arenas. He’s a very productive man: the total number of TV shows where Hughley had roles is 19, and the total number of films where he starred is 17. He managed to reveal comedian talent completely in every film and show. Also, he is a person who cares about his country, about humanity, about the world. Hughley has his own political and social views, so he doesn’t hesitate to offer them to the mass media.
