Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE is now better known simply as Dentaa, was born in 1983 in the small town of Juaso, Ghana.
Although she moved to the United Kingdom with her parents at the age of five, her love of African culture and desire to spread it around the world did not go away over time. From an early age, the girl showed great skill in acting. At school, Dentaa always tried to participate in various talent shows or small performances.
The desire for acting was not the only one for the girl. During her school years, she also showed interest in sociology and media. This is what forced her to enter Layton Sixth Form College after graduating from Walthamstow School for Girls. In college, she received an A-Level subject-based qualification. Of course, knowledge of such topics helped her quickly get used to the media business in the future and bring her the popularity she has today.
After graduating from college, Dentaa began to get used to the media business fairly quickly. She first appeared as an actress on British television. These mainly were drama series such as Judge John Deed, Prime Suspect, and others. Participation in such projects lasted several years. At the same time, Dentaa became interested in another occupation, namely music. In 2005, she even managed to release her gospel album called "Wu Ye Nyame". This album was mostly played on various Ghanaian radio stations.
Over the years working on TV, Dentaa has formed her own show format and was even able to implement it in 2006. This year was the beginning of the famous "The Dentaa Show". The program was mainly dedicated to African and especially Ghanaian culture. This was primarily done through exciting interviews with various celebrities, an overview of the music industry in general, and of course, a discussion of the most important events. This 30-minute program, though not immediately, eventually became one of Ghana's most popular television programs. Although the show lasted only three seasons, its popularity should not be underestimated. Everyone watched it, both young and old.
Of course, "The Dentaa Show" was not the only project in which she participated. Due to the popularity of this show, Dentaa began to be invited to various other projects and events. One of the first of these was Miss Ghana UK, which took place in 2007. On it, she was a co-host. In 2008, Dentaa was invited to another Ghanaian project called Mentor. Most clearly, this program can be described as a certain analog of the world-famous X-Factor project where talented singers fight for the right to become a winner and win not only a chance to get into the professional music business but also to receive a cash prize. A year later, Dentaa became one of the leading Ghana Music Awards. In 2010, Dentaa was supposed to return to the Mentor show but did not do so because she was pregnant.
Back in 2009, Dentaa came up with the idea of creating her own organization, which will deal with awards ceremonies that will primarily concern people who have made a significant contribution to British or Ghanaian culture or community. This organization is called Ghana UK Based Achievement, or GUBA for short. The first official awards ceremony was held in 2010 in London. Although the first awards ceremony was not widely publicized, it was later recognized by some Ghanaian and British organizations, which will actively support its annual holding in the future. Already in 2011, thanks to this ceremony, Dentaa received an award in the nomination "Young Social Entrepreneurs of the Year" at the Future 100 Awards.
Another interesting fact that played a significant role in her life was that she is a big fan of football and was the manager of some players for a long time. Because of this love for football, in 2012, she helped with the organization of football player Benjani Mwaruwari, whose task was to build a football academy for young people in Zimbabwe.
Of course, such active support from people across Africa has not gone unnoticed, which is why Dentaa has been nominated for a large number of nominations for its contribution not only to African culture but also to the development of sports. In 2013, she even received the African Woman in Europe award.
In 2012, Dentaa decided to make another TV show called "Dinner with Dentaa". It was a relatively simple and fun show where famous guests prepared dinner, as the name implies.
As can already be understood, Dentaa's contribution to the spreading and popularizing of not only Ghanaian but also African culture, in general, should not be underestimated. The African Network of Entrepreneurs named Dentaa one of the 100 Most Outstanding Woman Entrepreneurs in Ghana. She has many similar titles, but in essence, they mean one thing - she is a person who has done a lot to recognize Ghana in other countries and spread African culture far beyond its borders.
Of course, today, she continues to develop her business actively. As before, Dentaa creates new shows, which actively covers talented people from Ghana and clarifies that this country has a considerable number of people who can change it for the better. She also supports certain football teams and currently serves as international relations manager for Asante Kotoko.
On the pages of her social networks, she actively covers news that concerns not only herself but Ghana in general. In addition, there are often motivational quotes and speeches to convince that anyone can succeed if they make enough effort.
Of course, one of the events that best shows how much Dentaa has done for its people was its awarding The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2016. This honorary award was a confirmation of her significant contribution not only to Ghana but also to England.
