Davido

Davido is a 27-years old successful Nigerian singer and songwriter from the US that has already released four amazing studio albums and EPs that combine the music of a row of various genres: R&B, pop, reggae, as well as dancehall.

His second single from the debut studio album was very successful, so it became Davido’s golden ticket to a great music career. In fact, his popularity had rapidly risen thanks to this single, “Dami Duro''. Also, Davido managed to release more hit singles later, such as "One of a Kind", "Skelewu", "Gobe", “The Sound", "The Money", and others. Davido has over 35 awards from over 70 nominations, for example, the singer was awarded by The Headies several times.

Davido’s full name is David Adedeji Adeleke. The artist was born in Atlanta, on November 21, 1992. He grew up in the family of a businessman and a university lecturer as the youngest of five siblings. Davido’s desire to make music had developed when he studied business administration at Oakwood University. The guy moved to Alabama to study at the university after he had graduated from British International School in Lagos. There Davido started making beats. He worked assiduously on developing the right skills together with his two cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo to build successful music careers. Soon, the young man gave up the university to pursue music full-time. Davido moved to London, where he started working hard on his vocals. When Davido was 19 years old, he returned to Nigeria. In order to honor his father, the artist paused his music career and enrolled at Babcock University.

Although he stopped giving performances, the man didn’t stop working on his album in his free time. Before he graduated from the university with a degree in music in 2015, Davido had managed to release his first studio album “Omo Baba Olowo” in 2012. Such producers as GospelOnDeBeatz, Maleek Berry, Spellz, Mr. Chidoo, and the other four helped Davido to release this album. That’s interesting, but the album had predominantly negative reviews from critics due to its lyrical content. For the lead album’s single a video was released too. It was supposed to be the best one. But as a result, the second album’s single “Dami Duro” became a hit and gave Davido the biggest success. Also, the album was recognized as the Best R&B/Pop Album, as well as received nominations for Album of the Year at The Headies and the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2013.

The artist was as strongly inspired as never before to create more. Thus, Davido continued releasing new songs one by one. On 25 February 2013, Davido released the new track “Gobe”, produced by Shizzi. The song ranked second on the Premium Times' list of top 10 best songs of 2013. Then Davido made several more standalone successful releases such as "One of a Kind", "Skelewu", and "Aye". The fact of including most of Davido's singles on the Premium Times' list of the top songs indicates the high quality of the artist's creative products. The song "Skelewu" has two videos, but the official one was directed in London by Moe Musa. This single ranked fifth on Premium Times' list of the top 10 songs of 2013. One of his other no less amazing singles was created in order to inspire Africans to partake in community-based social investment projects. The "Africa Rising" was released with the help of the Callback Dreams production team.

Davido’s second album, “The Baddest”, was planned to be released in June 2015, but it was delayed due to an unnamed corporation's interest in distributing it. Such producers as Shizzi, Del B, Spellz, J Fem, Don Jazzy, Puffy Tee, Uhuru, Kiddominant, and Young John helped Davido in the album creation. Then Davido signed with Sony and founded his own record label Davido Music Worldwide. The contract with Sony had a significant impact on the ability to release albums for Davido. It required the album to have an international appeal to allow for global distribution. Fortunately, the artist managed to release “The Buddest” in September 2015. His next creation was the EP “Son of Mercy” of 5 singles that also featured appearances from Simi, Tinashe, and Nasty C.

Davido has continued to be active in developing his career as a singer, songwriter, and record producer. After he had released the EP, the artist’s strong wish to do more wasn’t missed. One by one, Davido successfully released new singles such as "If", "Fall", "Fia", "Assurance", "Blow My Mind", and "Risky". By the way, the song “If” won Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2018, and the next one, “Fall”, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa. In 2019, Davido succeeded in becoming the first African artist that sold out tickets for the performance at The O2 Arena in London. This year, he also released the studio album titled “A Good Time” that was recorded in Atlanta. The singles released before were included in the album ("If", "Fall", "Fia", "Assurance", "Blow My Mind", and "Risky"). It combines various music genres, but most of all, it is filled with afrobeat. As for Davido’s upcoming album, it should be born to the world in 2020. In May of this year, Davido announced the release of his new studio album “A Better Time” with features from Nicki Minaj and Tiwa Savage.
